Campaign Manager - Campaign Manager (Silverlight)

N Per X And Grid Segmentation Campaigns

N per X takes N number of records from every distinct value of X, where X is a column in the database that can be used to group a number of records together.

Examples of columns that can be used in this way are a household id on a customer table, or an email address on a customer table where more than one customer might share that value.

One per [Demo].[Customer].[Household id] would take one person from each house regardless of how many people are living there. Functionality also exists to allow users to select which recipient is selected based on their value in another database column. For example the person with the highest age or income.

IMPORTANT

Note:

Within the Grid campaign, there are two options when using a N per X column that will give two different setsof results so selection of the correct column is important to understand. Please review the following example:

Applying 1 per Household at the Cell level

  • To apply 1 per Household at a Cell level, choose the non unique key on the campaign key table e.g. [Demo].[Customer].[Household ID]
  • Set the N per X option at the cell row for Exclude
  • Dedupe will work to allow the selection of only 1 person per Household for that Cell, and if used, making that selection based on the "using" columns
  • The Cell will only output 1 person per Household at the Cell level, but anyone else in the house not selected from that Cell, will be passed to subsequent cells.
  • Cell hierarchy is processed first, before any "using" column logic is applied, so Cell 1 might have two recipients as part of the selection criteria, and the processing would select the oldest person for example, but that may not be the oldest person in that house as that is simply the first Cell to be processed. Older people would be passed to later Cells.

Applying 1 per Household at the Campaign level

  • To apply 1 per Household at a Campaign level, choose the unique key linked to the Campaign Key table, e.g. [Demo].[Household].[Household ID]
  • Set the N per X option at the cell row for Exclude
  • Dedupe will work to allow the selection of only 1 person per Household for that Campaign, and if used, making that selection based on the "using" columns
  • The Cell will only output 1 person per Household at the Cell level, but anyone else in the house not selected from that Cell, will be excluded from any subsequent cells.
  • Cell hierarchy is processed first, before any "using" column logic is applied, so Cell 1 might have two recipients as part of the selection criteria, and the processing would select the oldest person for example, but that may not be the oldest person in that house as that is simply the first Cell to be processed. If not selected by cell 1, the oldest person in the house would then be excluded from the entire campaign

N per X is applied to the gross column of your rows to produce the net figure before any sampling has been applied.

N per X can be used in the following ways:

  • To select one person per household
  • To select one person per household using the person with the highest lifetime value (see Important note above)
  • To select one person per household using the youngest person in the household (see important note above)
